Manga makeup

ff_manga_w.jpg Several of you have told me I did a crappy job of explaining what's in Wired's November package on manga. Okay. Let me try again.

There are five pieces:

1. A story I wrote, based on my stint in Japan, about the dojinshi movement. Sure, these amateur comics creators are trampling all over copyright law. But they might be saving the manga industry. (This piece has been picked up in a bunch of places, including BoingBoing and The Wall Street Journal.)

2. A 10-page account of how manga conquered America, rendered in manga. It's terrific.

3. A sidebar on how manga is being used for SAT vocabulary, economic development, and other purposes.

4. A sidebar about my experiences as a subject of some experiments on the how the mind processes manga.

5. An excellent interactive Manga 101 course.

That better?
