100_0196w.jpg 100_0199w.jpg Last month, Kate Fitzpatrick, town manager of Needham, Massachusetts, heard me yap about emotionally intelligent signage. Last week, she sent me an email: “As it happens, I was scheduled to teach four classes of eighth grade social studies at the end of the month. This was actually much more interesting and enjoyable than it sounds! After providing the kids with background on local government and the services offered by the Town of Needham, I told them that one of our biggest complaints has to do with cars speeding on local roads. I challenged them to design signs that would trigger an empathetic reaction, and got about 100 designs, some of them remarkable. How about this for a slogan: “Slow Down — You May Hurt the Future.” . . . . Our Highway guys are having two of them made into actual signs, and I’m going to install them and then rotate them around Town.” Check out the Needham blog for more samples.
