In The Adventures of Johnny Bunko, our hero comes up with what he thinks is a revolutionary, category-busting new idea. Inspired by a passing bird, he decides that his company should make shoes with seeds embedded in them. As the shoe wears out, the seeds are distributed wherever the owner happens to walk. And when the shoes wear completely out, people can plant them.

Careful readers will remember that this idea becomes turns out to be a colossal flop. But now Johnny just might get the last laugh.

Springwise reports that this month OAT Shoes will be debuting a new line of biodegradable sneakers: “Bury them in the garden, woods or compost, water regularly and flowers will bloom from your old kicks!”

Yes, life imitates manga.

So when do you plan on suing them for stealing your intellectual property?

  2. This is great news, especially since lots of sneakers leave a trail of non-biodegradeable bits. Ingenuity will save the day. Thanks for keeping this stream of good ideas coming. We need them now more than ever.

  3. There’s a similar idea that I read in a series of fiction books (The Ringing Cedars Series) that would potentially put a huge dent in the ‘crisis’ around the pollution our cars create.

The character proposed the idea of putting some sort of device on the front bumpers of our car that would (suck up) the pollution, convert it to something less harmful, and then expel that out the back bumper.

I don’t remember which (of the 9 books) that it was mentioned in, but I’m pretty sure it was one of the first 5 (lol, I think).

    With Love and Gratitude,

    Jeremiah
