It’s the question that has vexed philosophers and statesmen since the time of Cicero: Can emotionally intelligent signage reduce napkin use in fast food restaurants?

Now Burger King restaurants are working on an answer with emotionally intelligent messages printed directly on the napkins themselves.

  1. OK, so if the napkin cop stops me and I only have 9, then I’m simply a slob, not a thief, right? Cool. Will that work at Starbucks too?

In Mexico Burger King still keeps the napkins behind the counter and doles them out one at a time. It is great to see some good intent out of a giant corporation. Of course they are also counting on the good intent of the American public (and are still dubious about the intent of the Mexican public).

Expecting good behavior and talking about it while trusting people to do the right thing is how society will rise and expand.

  5. A thief? Wow! I’ll definitely have to keep better count from now on.

  7. This cracks me up! The tongue in cheek approach is a friendly way to get people thinking about themselves.
