  1. Kelly says:

I realize I’m an outsider on the following opinion, but coffee is nasty. Smells bad and tastes worse. That’s why people have to acquire a taste for it. That said, this was about caffeine and I do like caffeine in other forms (tea, Mt. Dew), so the advice is still quite useful.

Oh, and be sure to have that nap in the early afternoon. Caffeine’s half-life could affect your nighttime sleep if you drink it too late in the day.

    • Scott Lawrence Lawson says:

100% agree with Kelly, I do not like the taste or smell of coffee, even in other foods like coffee ice cream. I much prefer quality tea. So, DP, calm down you have had too many cups! 🙂

    • Ernie says:

It’s amusing to read about your dislike for coffee, which is “steeped” in history. Your affinity for Mountain Dew, a relative newcomer to “pop” culture, is like drinking malted battery acid. Puns intended.

  2. Tom says:

Don’t drink coffee right when you wake up because cortisol is produced then. But time it so caffeine kicks in right when you wake up from a nap. Seems contradictory unless we don’t produce cortisol after a nap. Length of sleep must be a factor.

  3. Wes says:

Love it! Thanks for the advice!

  4. Melanie Bowden says:

Hi Dan – Do you get the same effects at those times from drinking other kinds of caffeine like tea or soda? Thank you.

  5. Don Myers says:

Never in my 74 years of living have I heard anyone make a recommendation that seems so logical and yet hidden from my view. Thank you

  6. Walt says:

Culturally, which countries subscribe to afternoon napping? Seems like an obvious benefit, but I don’t think it would be encouraged in today’s corporations.

  7. I believe Spain does have oficial nap time. Some years ago the international companies tried to change the law that allow it. Hope they didn’t success!
Thanks Daniel. I will be a active napucino practitioner

  8. Hi Dan! LOVE the “Nappuccino!” After your reading your awesome book, “When,” the coffee advice makes total sense 🙂 thanks for your continued wit, wisdom, and humor!

  9. I agree, how can someone not drink coffee??? I have also tried the coffee nap and have to agree that it is amazing and I am so driven the rest of the day. Highly recommend if you can find the time to do that, as work permits.
