  • UPDATE: Sorry, folks. I made a mistake. IDoneThis offered a free version for many years, but apparently just discontinued it. Your best bet is to set a daily reminder on your phone or computer — and then each day, record what you got done on a Word or Google Docs file or in a paper notebook. You could also configure your email client to send yourself an email every day asking you what got done. Then you could simply respond to email and keep the responses in a folder. If we hear of any free services, we will update this post.

  • NEW UPDATE: Newsletter subscriber Eric Case recommends WeekDone, which is free for individual use and teams smaller than three people.

  • Teresa Amabile’s research is collected in a terrific book she co-authored with Steven Kramer — The Progress Principle: The Progress Principle: Using Small Wins to Ignite Joy, Engagement, and Creativity at Work. (Buy it at Amazon, BN.com, Indiebound, or Porchlight.)

  • You can find out more about the book on her website, where she also has a helpful Daily Progress Checklist.
