Doesn’t surprise me. The largest employer in NC west of Charlotte is Mission Healthcare Systems in Asheville. We are talking about 18-20 counties. The hospital’s foundation has a program to inform citizens about the organization. It is a fascinating look into the workings of a large, complex organization.
Two things impress me. One is that department heads clearly see the big picture related to healthcare, and understand how it impacts what happens within their departments. Two, the innovation that is taking place is exceptional.
One trend to note. There is a huge shift taking place from private practice physicians to hospital employed ones. I’m still trying to grasp the implications of this for the field of medicine.
