  1. Thanks Dan – very informative and motivating! I prefer to exercise at about midday as it fits in with work better.
You mentioned the benefits of morning and late afternoon and early evening – what about in between?

Dan – love the book. Do have a question for you on the social science behind how to consuming the content. Because I am in the car for long stretches, I enjoy listening you read the book via a CD. Any social science on retention of content of listening vs. reading? I also wonder if listening to books read by the author adds a little more effectiveness in terms on content delivery and I believe you emphasize your own points better than a paid reader … but wonder if any of this has been validated?

Any thought or science you an share on this?
    Dave

    Dan, when do you exercise?

Does anyone else have trouble playing the videos on Chrome? Is there a fix?

    • Barry says:

      Hi Rick,

I’ve had good fortune playing problematic videos in Chrome by doing the right-click “Open link in incognito window”

      Hope this helps,
      Barry

I vote for several brief workouts. You lift your mood each time. You do get some exercise in,since you do some in the morning, and you get the performance increase from the afternoon. One in the middle can help keep your mood up. Ten minutes of exercise that gets you breathing fast lift your mood for 4 hours. I even tested this with some hospitalised psychiatric patients. Average mood lift was 30%!!

How about 3 shorter workouts? You lift your mood each time. You make sure you get in exercise since you do one in the morning. You get some of their performance boost of later workouts. Just 10 minutes of getting your heart going lifts your mood for 4 hours ( this was from Richard Thayer, and I also tested it in a hospital setting. Average mood improvement was 30%!).

  7. Good one Dan. I love exercising in morning and have been consistent for a number of years. At 5:30 am in the morning that just gets you in a great mood and it is an awesome booster. The book was good and for me the best takeaway was to take those nature breaks for even 5-10 min in the afternoon is rejuvenating. Looks like the book has hit all the best sellers well done.

I like to work out smack dab in the middle of the day. Does that mean I get all the benefits of working out in the morning and in the evening?!?!?

  9. Sarah says:

Thanks dan! Perfect timing! I needed a bit of motivation to get back into my morning exercise regime! I loved finding out about the benefits of exercising at different times.

  10. Bruce Howard says:

I guess my long-time habit of exercising at the lunch hour is the best of both worlds?

  11. Jane Milliff says:

    Hi Dan,

You write in your book that you will get the most from strength training if you do it in the morning when testosterone levels are higher. That seems to contradict the afternoon performance boost when you say that you can lift more (when strength peaks). Can you explain this please? The two statements seem to contradict each other. Love the book though – thanks!

    Hello,

It would be helpful to have a closed captions option on your short videos.

    Thanks!

Thanks for sharing Dan. I never considered the possible reasons you shared for afternoon and evening workouts. I’ve been an early morning workout guy and runner for 20+ years. Nobody wants my time at 4 AM so I never have to miss sessions, even when traveling. Over the long haul that consistency has trumped the higher intensity I may get in the evenings because I’d have to miss too many workouts due to work and family commitments.

Thanks Dan. Another great Pinkcast, and love the book!!

I’m older (semi-retired) and use walking as my primary exercise. I walk in daylight. I live above the 45th parallel, so my days go from 16 hours in summer to 8 in winter. In the summer this means walking first thing in the morning, between 6 and 7 (my preference) and in the afternoon between 15:30 and 16:30 (if it’s not too cold).
